Welcome!
Each year, New Mexico allocates a tremendous amount of funding to education, yet we consistently rank near the bottom in both education and poverty.
The trajectory of education in Chaves County will move forward—whether we take charge of it or not. The Horseshoe Nails Brigade refuses to stand by while discredited educational agendas continue to fail our students. Our mission is to support and fund organizations that provide alternative, accessible, and affordable pathways to educational excellence.
We are grateful for the financial backing and steadfast support of the City of Roswell, ENMU-R, NMMI, the Hispano Chamber of Commerce, civic groups, churches, local leaders, and individuals—all committed to expanding alternative educational opportunities.
But commitment alone is not enough. It must be matched with bold action.
Last year, we raised $17,500 from donors—funds that covered expenses for middle-school students enrolled in the Intermediate Preparatory Academy for a year. Importantly, 85% of those students come from economically distressed families and communities of color.
This year, we are expanding our partnerships with ENMU-R and NMMI to support an even broader range of alternative educational pathways—including skilled trades, military service, advanced academics, and entrepreneurship. To achieve this, our fundraising goal is $120,000.
To help meet this goal, we are hosting a Matanza—a traditional New Mexico gathering where teams compete to create the best pork dishes, celebrating Hispanic culture, cuisine, community, and tradition through food and music. We expect 10,000 to 12,000 attendees.
Because of the high level of alternative educational excellence already offered in Chaves County, we lead the state in forging new educational pathways, which puts us in a unique position to shape our own future—free from distant interference.
Join us as a Matanza sponsor and gain valuable visibility and engagement while making a lasting impact on education in Chaves County. This one-of-a-kind community event offers high-impact marketing, networking, and brand awareness opportunities.
